Title : Chronic Kidney disease -how to slow down the progression ?
The rising incidence of chronic kidney disease in our country is likely due to increased detection and diagnosis ,rising cases of hypertension ,diabetes and cardiac disease as well as improper lifestyle causing kidney stones and abuse of unsafe medications .
Once chronic kidney disease (CKD) sets in ,it is an irreversible ailment and usually culminates in either dialysis or transplant .
Although ,both above treatment options are now routinely done all over the country ,the main thrust of CKD care should be towards slowing down the progression and if possible even prevention .This can be achieved by control of blood pressure to <130/80 ,control of blood glucose ,proper diet with slightly low protein content ,avoiding unsafe painkillers and antibiotics ,hydrating well and monitoring blood tests related to kidney function .
